Lacquer and inlay technique
Chinese style, France, 19th cent.

Delicately built folding table with gracious depiction on the table surface in "Chinoise" style. This is elaborate work with many colorful inlays of mother-of-pearl. Square surface with retracted corners, on the deep black lacquer ground are blossoms, water plants, rocks and birds, large peony blossoms and many blossoming plum trees. In the water is a female mandarine duck, her partner stands on a basket resp. a shore anchor - both birds are a symbol for harmonious marriage life. From the air, another little bird descends. The composition is very rich in sensitive color details. General good condition, smaller defects due to age are perfectly restored. Also inlays on the decorated three-part table column which stands on three curved legs. The folded table surface displays a very nice decorative pictorial effect.
