A LIDDED VESSEL WITH BLOSSOMS AND BIRDS
Porcelain with enamel paint
China, Qing dynasty (1644-1912)

Spherical form on a flush foot, no neck. On one side are two large, red chrysanthemums; two very lively painted, red-brown birds sit on the protruding stem of a leaf, their beaks open, their eyes large and dark. On the other side of the vessel is an inscription written in black with a small red seal at the end. The slightly vaulted lid features blossoms and butterflies as well as a pointed, bud-shaped knob.
