THREE-LEGGED JUE VESSEL
Silver alloy
China, late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) to Republic

The jue is an archaic Chinese vessel form, exactingly reproduced here on a smaller scale. Saber-like legs, handles on the sides and vertical posts. Originally, such bronze vessels were used to heat wine for sacrificial libation. This jue has a back-ground leiwen pattern, which shows two kinds of creatures – four stags and four fish-like dragons.
