TWO SMALL SCABBARD SLIDES
Jade
China, late Qingperiod, end of 19th, early 20th century

These two finely carved scabbard slides both present similar characteristics. They are mostly flat, with only a gentle curve at the edges, and decorated with a section of incised lines designating a Han-inspired mask-like face. The rest of the surface is covered with a regular pattern of raised bumps organized within a regular grid and bordered by an engraved line that follows the contour: the backs are unadorned and polished.
The jade is pale celadon in one case and more white in the other: both present very few areas of amber, more prevalent on the larger scabbard slide.
