STANDING FEMALE FIGURE
Terracotta
Mesoamerica, Pre-classical, ca. 300 BCE

This figure standing with its feet spread apart has a markedly long head and is wearing a hat. While the whole sheet-like figure is very flat, the nose juts out powerfully. The arms are curved, protruding stumps and the feet are not even depicted. The long head is dominant and the figure’s femininity only visible in its wide belly. Narrow, sensual eyes and mouth, the lower robe suggested by engraved lines. Black pedestal.
