GODDESS ANNAPURNA

India, approx. 18th – 19th cent.

Good and rare small bronze of the deity Annapurna, patron goddess of famines. She stands for nourishment and is a form of the goddess Parvati, spouse of Shiva. Here she is shown with her characteristic attributes - bowl and large spoon sruk. On the head is a tall crown karanda-mukuta. She represents generosity. Remnants of gilding, small casting flaw to the back of base.

Condition: Good condition with loss to hte base of the back side
