A BASTAR BRONZE OF A GODDESS HOLDING A VAHADI
Bronze
India, 19th-20th century

What immediately catches the eye here is the non-wearing of any attributes because she holds with both hands a vahadi, an ornamental bow, which carries a pointed cone on both ends and is decorated with spirals arranged in rows. At the highest point, a khappar is attached, which itself is a spiral and is surrounded by small spirals all around. The arms that hold the vahadi are like pillars, but daintily slender. The base is decorated with ribbons, grid pattern and on the side with large spirals.
