AN INDONESIAN KRIS, BLADE POSSIBLY 17TH-18TH CENTURY
Metals, wood
Indonesia, blade possibly from the 17th to 18th century

An elegantly shaped, straight, narrow and almost black blade, the pamor pattern is wavy with characteristically crafted islands. Protruding, thorn-shaped ganja. The Selut is made from gold, shows pearled decorations and shines in a striking manner between the dark blade and handle. The handle shows figural carvings, depicting a large-eyed, demonic deity with partly curled hair and fangs. The curved warangka is very elegant and has a fine grain. The pendok is coated with metal and shows a dense relief with floral motifs and pairs of snakes and birds
