CUP WITH HEAD OF A JAGUAR

Pre-Columbian America, Inca, approx. around 1500

Rare piece, on which even the otherwise metallic bands are also carved in wood. Tall, upswinging cup form, mouth on one side thicker from where the angular, stylized head of a jaguar arises. Also the legs are executed, protruding entirely flat and angular, the long horizontally tapering tail forms a right angle.

Dimensions: HEIGHT 19.3 CM, DM 12.8 CM
Condition: Good, age-related condition with signs of weathering and patina. Handcrafted carving with a knife is still well preserved and recognizable
Provenance: Former collection of B. Rüdiger, Konstanz on Bodensee, acquired around 1985
