This kozuka handle depicts the two island-ers known as Ashinaga and Tenaga, literally “long leg” and “long arm”, in high relief. The latter is seated on his companion with his long arms crossed in front of him. Both have curly hair, are naked except for a loincloth, and became well-known for their fishing skills. The eyes and loincloths are lightly gilt. The reverse of the handle shows a file pattern.
