The Father of Zen Buddhism cast with his hands held in a gesture of prayer, tucked under his long flowing robe, his eyes gently downcast and his hair and beard arranged in finely incised curls. Note the finely cast and engraved naked feet and the minuscule urna on the forehead. The superior quality and elegant yet simple style of this work clearly identify it as an earlier bronze, dating from the mid-Edo period. Modern wood base.
