A TALL IVORY NETSUKE OF CHOKARO SENNIN

Japan, 18th century, Edo period (1615-1868)

Chokaro Sennin, recognizable by the gigantic gourd attached to his back, is smiling and looking upwards to his right and holding his very large flowing beard in his hand. He is wearing a mugwort leaf cloak with flowing folds. Himotoshi in the backside.

HEIGHT 8.8 cm

Condition: The ivory slightly worn, minor age cracks, very attractive yellowish patina on the backside.
Provenance: The 40-Year Collection of a London Gentleman.
