THE WHITE BULL NANDI AND NAGA
Yellow Bronze
India, Maharashtra
18th to 19th cent.
HEIGHT 20,3 CM

Lying on a quadratic, frontally protruding pedestal is the white bull nandi, Shiva’s mount. In the opening encircled by the tail of the snake, there was presumably a Shiva linga attached, or perhaps a figure of the deity itself, however, is missing. Furthermore attached is the curved guard of the naga (cobra), hier with only one head, with a lotus bud crown.
