SHEET SIZE 19,7 x 25,3 CM

With this very rare ink painting is the corresponding resp. following color woodblock print of Kitagawa Utamaro, famous as one of the great masters of Ukiyo-e, the details are all identical. This is found in Band 1 of the Ehon shiki no hana, of the “Picture Book of Flowers of the Four Seasons “, 1801. On the bridge it is quite crowded and teeming with girls, some holding big umbrellas. Only on the very outer right is the head of a man. The massive bridge railing is dominantly placed in the foreground, like a cloth hanging on a long pole.
