Finely and powerfully carved from antler, depicting a rooster fighting a centipede. The rooster’s plumage is exquisitely detailed, with its eyes double inlaid in light and red horn. The rooster grips the centipede's body with one leg, while the creature’s long, segmented form wraps beneath and along the rooster’s back. Note the double inlays accenting the centipede’s segments. Two asymmetrical himotoshi are placed on the back, and the piece is signed YIREN on a feather at the top.
The Netsuke is inspired by the ‘Journey to the West’, Chapter 55: ‘Monkey is advised by Guanyin to see Star Officer Krttika (maori xingguan) to assist them in defeating the demon. The Star Officer reverts to his original form, a giant rooster, and crows loudly. The demon could not bear the sound of the crow and dies, revealing herself to be a scorpion demon.

Yiren, born in Chongqing province in 1988, is a Chinese netsuke carver. During the early 2000s he carved inkstones, but later began to carve netsuke specializing in gods, monsters, and animal subjects. He joined the Yuan Qi Zao Wu as a carving artist in 2017 and participated in the Yuan Qi Netsuke seminar in 2018 and 2019.

When you register to bid in an online auction, you will need to share your intended maximum spending budget for the auction. We will then review your intended spend and set a bid limit for you. Once you have pre-registered for a live online auction, you can see your intended spend and bid limit by going to 'Account Settings' and clicking on 'Live Bidding Registrations'.
Your bid limit will be the maximum amount you can bid during the auction. Your bid limit is for the hammer price and is not affected by the buyer’s premium and VAT. For example, if you have a bid limit of €1,000 and place two winning bids for €300 and €200, then you will only be able to bid €500 for the rest of the auction. If you try to place a bid that is higher than €500, you will not be able to do so.
