TSUBA WITH THE ZEN-PATRIARCH DARUMA
Iron, shakudo, copper
Japan
18th cent.
HEIGHT 7 CM

Very unusual of nearly square karugata form with one hitsu, the edges strongly coiled - uchi-kaeshi – towards the obverse side. The face and hand of Daruma evenly inlaid to contrast the ishimeji structure. Further with decoration showing stalactites and hanging foliage growing from a cave. The obverse side possibly showing rocks and a waterfall. A characteristic Myochin school tsuba.
